Austria

Quick facts about Austria:

  • Capital city: Vienna
  • Language: German
  • Currency: Euros
  • Electricity: Standard European plug (2 round pins)

One of the first places I ever solo travelled to, Austria holds a fond place in my heart. Not only is it home to some of the most famous imperial architecture but it’s also one of the best places to breathe in the mountain air, ski on some of the most beautiful alpine summits and ride a cogwheel train past glaciers and beautiful turquoise lakes. In fact, it’s one of the best places in Europe to go on a road trip.

Where to go:

If you’re looking for a cultural retreat with the pomp and circumstance of imperial architecture, museums and opera head to Vienna. If it’s picturesque mountains and idyllic countryside you want, try visiting Hallstatt or Salzburg.
